Best of Both Sides 2012

Any Melbournian will tell of you of the underlying competitive streak between the north and south. From pubescent teenager to the young adult and beyond, the tradition of shouting from high above ones geographical pedestal has been a time-honoured tradition.

At the forefront of this peculiarity, nestled snugly in the heart of their hallowed territory, Lucky Coq and Bimbo Deluxe know just how deep this friendly rivalry runs. We know all about the stereotypes acknowledged by locals that represent differences in fashion, style, coffee, haircuts, jean elasticity and shampoo brand, as we helped create them and witness them first hand every day. What we don't know is just how best to decide who reigns supreme.

Enter The Best of Both Sides Festival - A celebration of this unique rivalry.

For seven glorious days we showcase the very best in electronic culture, visual entertainment, food, booze and sound. An extension of our everyday operations, we pimp the chocolate time of year to the max. Eat the Easter bunny, this year we're bringing the treats!

Along with the everyday undertakings you have come to know and love from us, we'll also give you the opportunity to meet the people behind Melbourne's biggest parties. An intimate glimpse through the looking glass at the most experienced and exciting new labels, promoters and party-people.

Preparations began over three months ago when we reached out to Melbourne's sub-culture elite and gave them the challenge of putting together their dream parties using our festival as a platform. The result - fourteen outfits, showcasing their 'mixed bags' together for one week of madness.

Canvassing a multitude of musical styles from environmental electronica to sun burnt techno, dizzy space sonnets to Flintstone funk and almost everything in between, the music takes centre stage and everything else is merely a supporting role. The treats on offer include international guests Gorge (German maestro, producer and co-owner of 8-bit records) and Bulgarian producer and RA regular KiNK as well as local acts M-Phazes, DJ Flagrant and Danni B amongst others. There'll be familiar faces such as Boogs, Spacey Space and Muska as well as up and comers Bossman AV, Psyde Projects not to mention the synth savvy duo of Mike Kay & Ben Houghton. On top of this we have over 80 more artists across the 7 days including 13 live performances, a spectacular outdoor visual extravaganza and a free courtesy bus running between the 2 stages to ensure you don't miss a thing.

How much will this plethora of hedonistic good-times set me back, you ask? Not a cent... The Bimbo and Lucky philosophy has long-been 'always free, always fun' and we're not about to change that now.

We've given you every excuse to stay local for your Easter holidays. Pick your favourite side of the river and experience the best of both sides.
